Why take a chauffeur to La Salette?

No train goes up to La Salette. From Lyon, you would need to reach Grenoble, then take a coach to Corps, before the last kilometres of a narrow, winding mountain road. With a chauffeur, you travel in one go, with no connections, and enjoy the scenery instead of driving.

  • A direct ride from Lyon to the shrine
  • A chauffeur used to mountain roads
  • Room for luggage for a retreat of several days
  • A fixed price, known before departure

The journey from Lyon to La Salette

Allow about 3 hours for 220 km: motorway to Grenoble, then the Route Napoléon to Corps, and finally around fifteen kilometres of climbing up to the shrine. A break can be planned on request. From Saint-Exupéry airport, your chauffeur meets you at the exit and sets off straight away.

The shrine and its history

On 19 September 1846, the Virgin Mary appeared to two young shepherds, Mélanie Calvat and Maximin Giraud, on the mountain of La Salette. A basilica was built there in the 19th century, surrounded by alpine pastures. Today the shrine welcomes pilgrims and retreatants in a high-mountain setting, with accommodation on site.
